The transfer saga concerning Everton’s defence has been going on for some time with the club being linked to left-backs Wendell and Kieran Tierney, but now the club should sign Junior Firpo to ensure they have an array of talent to choose from.

Arsenal have been linked to the 21-year-old in the past according to Spanish newspaper AS, but Everton must hijack their pursuit for the exciting youngster in order for the club to have a decent back-up at left-back.

Tierney’s potential arrival at Goodison Park, as reported by the Daily Mail, means he could be the club’s first-choice at to replace the ageing, and potentially departing Leighton Baines, but Firpo would make an excellent back-up and solve the issue of a lack of depth in the position.

The Real Betis defender possesses similar qualities to Baines, who was infamous for surging forward and providing threatening assists with his pace.

That is exactly the style of play the Toffees need right now having seen a number of departures from the club, and will mark the start of a new era under new boss Marco Silva.

A surge of new, young players like Firpo arriving at the club is just what the squad needs to feel invigorated for the new season, providing fresh hope that they can finish in the top ten in the Premier League.

Celtic’s Tierney has a lot more experience despite being the same age, having played over 100 times for the Hoops and winning the treble last season – something of which Firpo has not experienced yet.

Nevertheless, Silva must push the boat out to sign him this window, to ensure he has an array of defenders amongst his ranks to ensure an impressive campaign.
