Leeds United’s giant striker Jay-Roy Grot is in crunch discussions behind-the-scenes at Thorp Arch to talk about his future at the club this summer, according to Leeds Live.

The news website claim that the 6’3″ (source: Transfermarkt) powerhouse has been missing from training at times since returning to the club, with important talks revolving around a potential exit from Elland Road, be that on loan or permanently.

The 20-year-old was signed just last summer but has so far failed to make the grade with the Whites, his 22 appearances, 19 of which have come in the Championship, for Leeds resulting in just a single goal and an assist.

Opinion

Grot is a player who has divided opinion at Leeds over the last 12 months, with many likely coming to the verdict that he is not good enough to make it at the club. However, what most will forget, partly due to his giant frame, is that he is just 20-years-old, and at that age there is an awful lot of growing, both physically and mentally, to be done. Yes, he has hardly inspired confidence in the supporters with his displays, but then again, who did impress during what was a bitterly disappointing campaign for the club? If the Whites can find the right loan move, where he will be exposed to English football with regular playing time, then it should be a deal worth pursuing for a number of reasons. One, Leeds will get to see if he has what it takes to perform in a competitive match week in, week out and two, he will be picking up the experience to help him develop as a player, picking up the skills to become a success in the future.
