Everton are in crunch talks with Bundesliga side Werder Bremen over the sale of Dutch midfielder Davy Klaassen in what could potentially be a record breaking deal, according to Deichstube.

The German news outlet, who cover all the goings on at Bremen, claim that the Toffees are engaged in discussions with the top tier side about selling the 25-year-old a year after seeing him arrive at Goodison Park.

It is stated that Everton are looking for a fee of around £12.5million, a fee which would smash the transfer record of Werder Bremen, whose capture of Marko Marin currently tops their spending, with Klaassen having flopped in his first campaign in England.

Good move for Everton?

Klaassen certainly has not lived up to expectations but they should still not be allowing him to leave on a bargain deal, even if Werder Bremen are keen.

He still has a lot to offer and he could well flourish under Marco Silva – he just needs to be given the chance.

A reasonable transfer fee should and most likely would seal his exit this summer, but £12.5million, after spending a reported £24million on securing his capture, does not represent good business in the slightest.

Not a move the Toffees should be making, and Bremen might have to splash out or miss out this summer.

Likely to happen?

The top brass at Goodison Park are unlikely to want to make such a heavy loss on his exit, even if he has no part to play at the club any more, and it would have to be a heavily incentivised deal if they were to shake hands.

At the moment, the two clubs look too far apart on valuation, but that is not to say nothing will happen as the summer rolls on.
