Everton central midfielder Jack Kiersey has agreed the terms of a contract extension with the club, it has been confirmed.

The Premier League club announced on their official website and Twitter account that the 19-year-old has signed a one-year deal after penning his first professional agreement last year.

Kiersey, who was named Everton Under-18s’ player of the year in 2016-17, joined the club’s academy at the age of nine.

The flurry of contracts handed to Everton’s rising stars shows no signs of abating. The Merseyside club have announced a blizzard of contracts for their youth-team players over the last week or two, averaging at almost one a day. Given the club’s commitment to nurturing the stars of tomorrow and their history of producing outstanding youngsters, that can only be a good thing. Club coaches such as Under-23s manager David Unsworth have showed sound judgement when it comes to young players, with the likes of Tom Davies, Jonjoe Kenny and Beni Baningime all graduating from the academy to play for the first team in recent seasons, while Mason Holgate, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and company have thrived at Everton after joining at a young age. Can Kiersey follow Davies and company into the first team? He still has a long way to go, and the club’s offer of a one-year contract demonstrates they are still not certain he can be a senior star.
