Chelsea youngster Jacob Maddox has left the club to join Cheltenham Town on a temporary deal, with the Blues confirming the news of his departure via their official Twitter account.

The 19-year-old links up with the League Two side on a season-long loan deal, which is his first move away from Stamford Bridge in his fledgling career.

The attacking midfielder has already picked up some trophies at Stamford Bridge, winning the two FA Youth Cups and one UEFA Youth League so far in his career.

OPINION

Jacob Maddox is just the latest of many Chelsea youngsters that will be loaned out before the end of the transfer window. There seems to be an almost endless list of Blues youngsters that are all around Europe on temporary loan deals and very few of them actually get the chance to make an impact on the first-team. Maddox is a very good young player with significant potential, as shown by his involvement in the FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League wins for a very successful Chelsea youth team. However, so many of the young players involved in those wins will never be able to play at Stamford Bridge for their boyhood club. No matter how well Maddox does on loan next season, he will probably be sent on loan in the following season. Chelsea need to start giving young players a chance, they might find one or two that can make the grade.
