Arsenal are in the hunt to sign Barcelona defender Yerry Mina, according to Don Balon.

The Spanish news outlet have claimed that Arsenal have been impressed with the 23-year-old Colombia international at the World Cup, having looked solid until their penalty shoot-out defeat at the hands of England.

It is understood that the Gunners are interested in a loan deal which includes an option to make the move permanent.

Mina has shone at the World Cup, scoring three goals in three appearances for Colombia, including a stoppage time equaliser against England on Tuesday night.

Good move for Arsenal?

It could have been.

Unai Emery has made no mistake in highlighting Arsenal’s defence as an area of weakness, and Mina would have been a great addition, if the Gunners had not already brought in a load of talent.

It is unlikely that Mina would earn any meaningful game time at the Emirates, which would not help his career.

Should Arsenal have made the move prior to bringing in the likes of Stephan Lichtsteiner and Sokratis Papastathopoulos, then Mani would have been a great value addition.

Likely to happen?

I don’t think so.

Don Balon are known for their outlandish transfer claims, and this could be just one more on the ever growing list.

I don’t see Arsenal adding any more talent to their defence, as the roster is totally rammed packed as it is.
