Nottingham Forest are in the hunt to sign Liverpool’s defensive midfielder Pedro Chirivella, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claims via their website that Swansea are also interested in Chirivella, 21, as Jurgen Klopp prepares to cash in on the Spanish enforcer this summer.

It is understood that a seven-figure fee worth £5million would be enough to sign the Spain youth international, who spent last season on loan at Dutch club Willem II.

Good move for Nottingham Forest?

Chirivella was in decent form on loan in the Dutch Eredivise last season, as he appeared 35 times across all competitions as Willem II finished 13th to avoid relegation.

He helped his side to some big wins that secured their top-flight status, including a shock 5-0 hammering of PSV, who went on to win the title having lost just three games all season.

Although he did well in the Netherlands, there are doubts about whether he is worth the £5million valuation.

Forest have already done a lot of business and have spent some big sums of cash, so it is probably not worth the club’s time and money in signing a player who has just one senior appearance in English football for £5million.

Likely to happen?

At £5million? No. But if Liverpool were to lower their asking price, then there’s a chance that the deal could happen.

Swansea could also be a likely destination for Chirivella, as the Welsh club has had a strong history of signing Spanish players.

Aitor Karanka could be a preferred mentor by Chirivella, but it is just hard to see him moving to the Championship for such an unjustified sum.
