A section of Rangers fans have been reacting on Twitter after it was reported that the club are eyeing up a move for Bolton centre-back Mark Beevers.

The Express has claimed that Steven Gerrard is still in the hunt to sign a new left-sided centre-back, and could turn his attention to Beevers, 28, as he is a much cheaper option than Millwall’s Jake Cooper, who has been the subject of a rejected £3million bid by the Gers.

Beevers is very experienced in England, having made over 200 appearances in the Championship.

And although he has been a mainstay of England’s second-tier, some Rangers fans are sceptical about signing the former Sheffield Wednesday defender this summer, with one saying that it “stinks of a Warburton signing”.

OPINION

It is not a surprise that there are so many varying opinions on Beevers, as he is probably not that well known outside of the English Championship. The 28-year-old is certainly a cheaper option that Millwall’s Cooper, but as one fan pointed out, he is probably not better than Gerrard’s other defensive target. Beevers has spent a lot of career playing for teams in the bottom half of the Championship, so it would be a big step up for him to move to Ibrox and start playing for trophies in front of 50,000 people. Gerrard needs a left-sided centre-back though, so a move for Beevers is certainly a possibility.
