Nottingham Forest are in talks to sign free agent goalkeeper Luke Steele, according to the Nottingham Post.

The newspaper claims on their website that negotiations are underway between the Reds and Steele, 33, as Aitor Karanka looks to add more quality in his back-up options to Costel Pantilimon.

Steele is available for free after leaving Bristol City at the end of last season and is very much a proven set of hands in the Championship with over 250 appearances to his name in England’s second-tier.

Good move for Nottingham Forest?

Karanka is clearly not content with his goalkeeper options at the City Ground and wants to add some more quality and experience.

Steele has that in abundance from his spells at Barnsley, Coventry, Panathinaikos and most recently Bristol City.

Last season the 33-year-old made 10 appearances in all competitions, playing a role in the Robins’ Carabao Cup wins against Stoke, Crystal Palace and Manchester United.

He would definitely be a solid back-up option for Karanka.

Likely to happen?

It does seem as though Karanka wants to continue bolstering his shot-stopper options and as Steele is a free agent, he would be the best bet to be the next signing at the City Ground.

The former Manchester United and West Brom player was happy enough to play a squad role at Ashton Gate last season so will more than likely be happy to do that again in the East Midlands.
