Newcastle United forward Aleksandar Mitrovic is in London to wrap up a permanent switch to Fulham, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claimed on Sunday [01:27pm] that Mitrovic, 22, is scheduled to undergo a medical in the capital within the next 48 hours as he edges closer to a £22million move that could rise up to £27million.

The Serbia international’s move will be significant for Newcastle, who are struggling to spend big bucks this summer. His sale will also see £60,000-a-week (Spotrac) wiped off the club’s wage bill.

Good move for Newcastle?

While it will be a massive boost for Rafa Benitez to make signings by offloading a player who he hardly used last season, it’s not a move that is going to be all too popular with the fans.

Mitrovic was very much a popular figure at St James’ Park, but he simply struggled for game-time under Benitez’s leadership and cashing on him makes a lot of sense.

£22million will help Benitez find a new centre-forward, but the worry is that it will be West Brom’s Salomon Rondon, who is a similar type of player to the ex-Anderlecht target man.

Either way, that sum of money for someone who is not being used is brilliant for the Magpies.

Likely to happen?

Mitrovic’s move to Fulham is on the verge of completion and there is very little chance that it will fall through now with the speculation linking him to Craven Cottage pretty much all summer.

He should pass his medical with no problems and Fulham will have their new striker to spearhead their return to the Premier League.
