A section of Newcastle United fans have been reacting on Twitter after it was reported that the club is in the hunt to sign West Brom centre-back Ahmed Hegazi.
ESPN reported on Monday night that Newcastle and Brighton are both interested in the 27-year-old Egypt international.
It is understood that Hegazi has a £10million release clause in his deal at The Hawthorns and the Magpies have turned their attention to him in the wake of an injury sustained by Florian Lejeune.
Some Newcastle fans are loving the idea of signing Hegazi, with one calling him a “class act”. However others are not convinced by the potential £10million price-tag.

Had a decent season at West Bromwich albeit their relegation performed well at the back and is 6ft5 as a squad player I would be happy with him for cover

OPINION
Newcastle do not have long left to do their business and while some fans believe that Hegazi would be a good signing, he really wouldn’t. Last season at West Brom, for whatever reason, the media started singing praises of the big Egyptian. Maybe it was because of the form of his friend and international team-mate Mohamed Salah at Liverpool? But a lot of West Brom fans will tell you that Hegazi’s consistent role in the backline was part of their downfall. He made rash decisions, could never stay in the defensive line and made a lot of mistakes. If Ben Foster wasn’t the Baggies’ player of the season, Hegazi would have leaked more goals than he already had.
