Leeds United are interested in taking Everton defender Matthew Pennington on another loan deal, according to the Liverpool Echo, and fans are not happy.

It didn’t really work out for the 23-year-old at Elland Road last season, after he suffered an injury in his first match.

Pennington missed other games from injury through the season but still made 24 appearances for the club.

Everton were happy with what they saw, though, tying the youngster down to a contract extenion that will see him through until 2021.

However, it’s unlikely that he’ll see much action under Marco Silva this season and it looks like Leeds recruitment supremo Victor Orta wants to bring the enforcer back for another stab under new manager Marcelo Bielsa.

Wigan have also been credited with an interest and one Leeds fan made his feelings pretty clear when he said they could have him.

That sums up the mood from many other Leeds fans too.

Here are the best reactions from Leeds fans:

OPINION

Leeds fans don’t want Pennington back – that much is clear. However, we think they’re being overly harsh. Pennington looked good in his first Leeds outing but then got injured and missed a chunk of the season. By Christmas the wheels had fallen off the Leeds waggon and very few first-team stars, even the normally ultra reliable Pontus Jansson, were looking far from their best. A new loan deal for Pennington could give him a chance to kick-start his career and he’d have a point to prove at Elland Road. The only sticking point would be that we’d doubt Bielsa would be able to guarantee him game-time.
