Leeds United have tabled a “shock” bid to sign Wolves left-back Barry Douglas, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that an agreement between the two clubs over the Scotland international could be clinched next week as negotiations rumble on between the Championship promotion hopefuls and the Premier League newcomers.

Douglas was in dazzling form in 2017/18 as he scored five goals and supplied 15 assists in 42 appearances across all competitions from the left wing-back position.

Good move for Leeds?

100 per cent. Douglas was easily the best left-back in the Championship last season and given the way Marcelo Bielsa likes his team to line-up, he needs a top-class wing-back to play on the left-hand side.

Douglas continually supplied assists and was able to get among the goals himself as Wolves won promotion to the Premier League.

He would easily be better than the Whites’ current left-back options of Laurens De Bock and Tom Pearce and Bielsa should without doubt look to get this deal done as soon as he can.

Likely to happen?

It would be a massive shock to see Wolves want to cash in on Douglas after a stunning debut season at Molineux.

However Nuno Espirito Santo is closing in on signing Jonny Castro and has a bid on the table for Manchester City ace Oleksandr Zinchenko.

If deals for both of them are completed then it is likely that Wolves would sell Douglas, but will they sell him to a club who was so blatantly opposed to their transfer dealings last year?
