Leeds United have approached Middlesbrough with an enquiry about forward Patrick Bamford, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper has claimed via their website that Leeds have turned their attention to the 24-year-old after talks to sign Derby’s Matej Vydra hit an impasse and Marcelo Bielsa wants a proven Championship player to spearhead his attack next season.

Sun reporter Alan Nixon has recently reported via his personal Twitter account that Boro value Bamford at £16million.

Good move for Leeds?

Bamford is certainly proven at Championship level, having scored 36 goals in 100 appearances in England’s second-tier.

Last season he scored 13 goals in 44 matches across all competitions, with three of them coming against Leeds at The Riverside in March.

He would certainly be a decent signing for the Whites, but he is by no means as good as Vydra, who would also cost a smaller transfer fee.

If Boro stick to their £16million valuation, Leeds are going to have to look elsewhere because it’s unlikely that they would be willing to spend that much on Bamford, however if they were to lower it slightly, it would be a good move.

Likely to happen?

At the moment it does not seems likely, but Leeds’ enquiry about Bamford suggests that they are very serious about signing him.

The former Chelsea forward did not start as lot of games last season and could be seen by Tony Pulis as a key player for next term, especially as he is reported to have fallen out with Britt Assombalonga.

This move seems to hinge on whether or not Boro drop their asking price because at £16million it looks unlikely.
