Everton midfielder Davy Klaassen is on the verge of exiting Goodison Park just one year after signing for the club, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claimed on their live transfer blog on Thursday [02:13pm] that Klaassen, 25, is set to move to Germany to join Werder Bremen. Journalist Alan Myers adds on his personal Twitter account that the Dutchman is not expected to be in the squad for Everton’s pre-season friendly against Blackburn Rovers later in the day.

Klaassen joined the Toffees for £23million last summer, but will go down as one of Goodison’s biggest-ever flops due to only playing 16 times across all competitions.

Statistics website Spotrac has reported that the Netherlands international earns £70,000-a-week on his deal with the Blues.

Good move for Everton?

In hindsight, it was never a good idea for Everton to sign Klaassen for as big a fee that they eventually did, but after several class seasons for Ajax, not many would have predicted how his spell at Goodison would have gone.

He was never really given a fair chance, especially under Sam Allardyce, and Marco Silva could have at least tried to see if he could salvage something from the midfielder’s time on Merseyside.

However it appears that he will not get another chance and is on his way out, which is a shame, but probably for the best.

Likely to happen?

It certainly seems that it will.

Everton will surely be happy to cash in on one of their many 2017 flops and Klaassen himself would no doubt want to put this all behind him and try to salvage his career in Germany.

Werder Bremen are a decent club and hopefully it works out for him there because he can be a really good player in the right circumstances.
