Everton are in the hunt to sign Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck this summer, according to the Times.

The newspaper claims via their website that Welbeck, 27, is free to leave the Emirates before the start of the upcoming Premier League season as he is now in the final year of his contract with the Gunners.

Statistics website Spotrac reports that the former Manchester United striker, who made an appearance at the World Cup for England in the 1-0 defeat to Belgium, is earning £125,000-a-week on his current Arsenal deal.

Good move for Everton?

Welbeck has been one of them players who is not good enough for one of the top Premier League clubs and is made to look worse than he actually is because he has spent a lot of his career being compared to some of the world’s best.

Everton would be a perfect move for the 27-year-old, whose career has hit a wall in the last 12 months as he made just 12 Premier League starts last season.

Welbeck is a proven Premier League talent though and the Toffees should definitely look to get him off Arsenal’s hands to add a new striker to their ranks.

Likely to happen?

With Arsenal ready to cash in on Welbeck, there’s a good chance that other clubs will become interested in him so Everton will have to move fast in order to acquire Marco Silva’s target.

The Times claims that the Toffees have only so far expressed an interest in the England international, but they will have to follow up that interest if they really want to strike a deal with the Gunners.
