West Bromwich Albion have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Jonathan Bond.

The 25-year-old joins Albion on a free transfer and signs a two-year deal after his contract with Reading expired at the end of last season.

The Baggies revealed the new signing on their official Twitter page.

The Englishman spent last season on loan at League One side Peterborough United from his parent club Reading. He kept 8 clean sheets and conceded 48 goals in 37 games in his loan spell.

OPINION

West Brom’s transfer business is ramping up now and it’s about time. After losing first-choice goalkeeper Ben Foster to Watford and releasing back up keeper Boaz Myhill, it was imperative to get at least two goalkeepers in this transfer window, and that’s exactly what Albion have done. Sam Johnstone, arriving from Manchester United this summer, will obviously be the club’s first choice next season. However, the signing of ex-Reading keeper Jonathan Bond means that the former Aston Villa loanee will have to perform if he is to keep his place in the side. It’s vital to have two good keepers at a football club so that they both push eachother and improve their skills. Work is still to be done at The Hawthorns this summer in regards to transfers, but this is a good start and fans should look forward to a few more incomings over the next few weeks.
