A number of Aston Villa fans have been left excited on social media about the prospect of next season after seeing their team brush Walsall aside in a pre-season friendly.

The Villans saw off their League One opposition with a 4-1 victory, Conor Hourihane netting a hat trick and Glenn Whelan grabbing a goal of his own to give Steve Bruce and his men a much needed confidence boost ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Having seen their side stroll to victory, many of the Villa faithful took to Twitter to voice their verdict on the friendly clash, with many believing it showed an exciting future for the club, despite their ongoing financial woes.

Opinion

Villa fans have had very little to cheer about over the last couple of weeks and so this comfortable win could have settled a couple of nerves. The team look settled despite everything going on off the pitch, and they put in a confident performance at both ends of the field. The attack looked dangerous, constantly threatening Walsall’s goal, while the defence looked resolute, the only weakness coming after Bruce had changed much of the starting XI. It remains to be seen what sort of state the side will be in when the summer window closes, with exits a guarantee, but there is finally some light after what has been a dark time for the club.
