With Aston Villa seemingly on the other side of what were financial dire straits early in the summer, their attentions can now turn towards strengthening the first team and launching a bid to return to the Premier League.

The Villans’ woes were well documented after their failure to secure a place back in the top flight last season, falling at the final hurdle in the play off final, and it seemed there could well have been a fire sale of the first team stars.

However, speaking to the Birmingham Mail, Steve Bruce has confirmed that the panic is over and that the need to sell quickly and cheap is no longer the case at Villa Park – meaning there could well be new arrivals on the horizon, as there has yet to be a new face through the doors.

The Birmingham Mail claim that Villa have been in talks with Premier League heavyweights Tottenham for much of the summer, although that is primarily over Jack Grealish heading to north London.

Spurs and Villa were in business last summer as well, Josh Onomah joining on a season-long loan deal, and the 21-year-old could well be on his way back to the club this summer.

The Lilywhites confirmed on Twitter that the young attacking midfielder had been left out of the club’s first team squad for their USA tour, and considering he is so highly rated, the only reasons that he would have been left out is injury or an impending exit.

Having seen no long-term blow confirmed, or even reported, it seems Onomah is potentially heading out the north London outfit – and with negotiations taking place between Spurs and Villa over Grealish, the Spurs starlet may well be used as a makeweight, either on loan or permanently.

With no senior signings this summer, Onomah could return to the club and break the duck – for he certainly is not going to be featuring for Spurs’ first team over the coming weeks.
