Young Newcastle striker Ivan Toney has reportedly attracted the interest of League One side Sunderland according to Roker Report, and that comes to no surprise given the 22-year-old’s performances for Scunthorpe during the second half of last season.

The Premier League hitman spent the latter part of last season at the third tier outfit after being farmed out on loan in January, and he has since proved what a genuine attacking threat he really is, with 8 goalsĀ  in 16 league appearances.

Based on this news, Swansea must hijack the ex-Premier League club’s reported interest in the youngster in order to replace the flop that is striker Borja Baston.

The Spanish loanee spent the duration of last season playing for La Liga side Malaga, where he only mustered two goals in 22 appearances, while the 2016/2017 season did not fare well for him either, and he only managed to net one goal in 20 appearances in the Premier League for the Swans.

Boss Graham Potter must consider binning the Spaniard, who Swansea do not need on the books if they want a successful Championshp campaign that ends in promotion back into the top-flight.

They will need all of the firepower they can get their hands on, and unfortunately, Baston definitely does not fit the bill.

Meanwhile Premier League hitman Toney had an impressive season at Scunthorpe and Wigan respectively, bagging himself 14 goals and four assists in all competitions for the two clubs he appeared for last season.

This is a promising statistic for a striker of his age, and Swansea must exploit this talent at the expense of club flop Baston.

He is only going to improve season upon season, which is a prospect that would surely leave the Swans’ fans drooling – and his experience in the lower divisions may prove pivotal in the final run-in.

Potter must now hijack Sunderland’s pursuit of the talented forward in order to replace the mis-firing Baston.
