Leeds United are in negotiations to sign Senegal powerhouse Mbaye Diagne, according to Turkish football.

The football website claim officials from the Yorkshire giants are already in discussions with representatives of the star striker of Turkish club Kasimpasa.

It is said that Hull City, Bournemouth and Reading are also in the race to land Dakar-born Diagne, who has attracted the attention of clubs from abroad following an impressive six months with the Istanbul based side.

Good move for Leeds?

Diagne has qualities that are attractive to Leeds and other English clubs. He is a colossus (Transfermarkt state he is 6ft 4in tall), physically dominant, capable of playing with his back to goal and is an increasingly clinical finisher. Since joining Kasimpasa in January, Diagne has scored 12 goals in 17 matches after a decent spell in the Chinese Super League. Much-travelled Diagne has pedigree – he had a spell at Juventus without actually playing for the Serie A champions – but it is questionable as to whether he is the answer to Leeds’ need for a proven goalscorer. He has not scored in a major European league and, at 26, it is instructive that he has yet to play for the Senegal national team. Leeds should look elsewhere in their search for a new centre-forward.

Likely to happen?

It should not be ruled out completely given Leeds are in need of at least one new striker, and possibly two. But the Turkish media are not the most reliable when it comes to transfers, and this link should be treated with caution at this stage.
