Celtic are in hot pursuit of Swansea attacker Jordan Ayew, according to Football Ghana.

The Ghanaian news outlet claims that Liverpool have also expressed their interest in the 26-year-old, while Fulham have had an £8million bid rejected by the Swans earlier this summer.

Statistics website Spotrac reports that the 47-times Ghana international is earning £50,000-a-week on his deal with Swansea, who he scored 11 goals for in 44 appearances across all competitions last season.

Good move for Celtic?

Celtic have already broken their transfer record once this summer and Brendan Rodgers already has three centre-forward options in his team in Odsonne Edouard, Leigh Griffiths and Moussa Dembele.

Does he really need Ayew? Not really, although the former Aston Villa man can play on the wings, which is an area that could really be improved upon with Scott Sinclair less than convincing last term, Jonny Hayes’ injury woes and the fact that Patrick Roberts will not return on loan again.

As it would cost more than £8million for the Ghana international, it just does not seem like a worthy investment for the Hoops, especially after a poor season with Swansea.

Likely to happen?

Not a chance. It’s hard to see how Liverpool would be holding an interest in Ayew, let alone Celtic, who would stand no chance of meeting his wage demands nor will they be willing to spent a big sum of money again unless someone like Dembele is sold.

Fulham is the more realistic destination for the 26-year-old, especially as they have already lodged a bid.
