Tottenham have made an offer to Boca Juniors enforcer Wilmar Barrios, according to Sky Sports Italy reporter Gianluca di Marzio.

The reliable journalist claimed on his personal Twitter account that Barrios, 24, has been handed an opportunity to join Spurs this summer and play alongside Colombia international team-mate Davinson Sanchez in North London.

It is understood that the South American midfielder is not currently considering his club future while starring at the World Cup in Russia.

According to the Independent, Barrios has a £14.5million release clause in his deal at La Bombonera.

Good move for Tottenham?

Barrios looks like a very decent defensive midfielder and he could be a solid back-up option to Eric Dier.

He has been a mainstay for Boca Juniors since joining them in 2016 and made 27 appearances across all competitions for the Argentine giants last season.

At Boca, Barrios has learned what it takes to be a champion and to play in environments with massive pressure, and that will more than see him ready to take the Premier League.

It’s also good that he is not considering his club future until after the World Cup as this shows he is someone who is a consummate professional.

Likely to happen?

Di Marzio is one of the most trusted journalists around, so there’s a very good chance that Spurs have made an offer.

Boca would not be able to turn down a fair offer by the Premier League club and Barrios would more than likely jump at the chance to move to the Premier League.

It’ll be a good move for Mauricio Pochettino to make and one that definitely seems likely.
