According to reports coming out of Italy, Wolves and Tottenham are both in the race to sign Barcelona playmaker Andre Gomes this summer – and Nuno Esprito Santo needs to hold talks with Jorge Mendes as soon as possible in order to sign the Portugal international.

Italian newspaper Il Messaggero, as translated by Sport Witness, has reported in their print edition that Wolves and Spurs are long-term admirers of Gomes, 24, with him now appearing on the radar of Lazio.

It is understood that Barca may try and use Gomes as a makeweight to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this summer, which could put the Serie A side in pole position ahead of Wolves to sign the former Valencia star.

However the West Midlands club have an ace up their sleeve, with Gomes on the books of super-agent Mendes.

Molineux boss Nuno and Chinese investors Fosun share a good relationship with Mendes, who has already helped see the likes of Ruben Neves, Diogo Joto and Helder Costa head to the West Midlands.

If Nuno tells Mendes that he wants to sign Gomes this summer, then surely the Premier League newboys can force themselves into serious reckoning to sign the Portugal playmaker – even though the Mirror reports that he has a release clause worth a stunning £88.5million.

As with most players in Spain, there is always usually a mad release clause tied into contracts so Wolves would probably not have to spend anywhere near that, especially for a player who made just six La Liga starts last season.

But with the Wanderers now in the Premier League, they have a serious chance to make some massive signings – and Gomes should be one that Nuno really tries to force a move for.
