Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is in hot pursuit of Porto attacker Juan Quintero, who is currently on loan at Argentinean giants River Plate, according to Ole.

The Argentine news outlet claims that River Plate can exercise their option to sign the 25-year-old ace on a permanent basis for £3.3million after agreeing a deal with Porto to sign him with an option-to-buy clause in January.

It is understood when River do sign the Colombia international, who has been on fire at the World Cup for his nation this summer, he will have a release clause worth £19.4million.

Pocket-sized dynamo Quintero, who is just 5ft 5in tall according to transfermarkt, scored in Colombia’s World Cup opener defeat to Japan and supplied an assist in the 3-0 win against Poland more recently.

Good move for Tottenham?

Quintero has been in stunning form at the World Cup and it was just a matter of time before he was linked with a move to the Premier League this summer.

However judging by his club form, he has not exactly been setting the world alight in Argentina.

In 15 appearances across all competitions with River Plate, he has only scored one goal and supplied three assists.

More worryingly, he has started just five times in the Argentine Primera Division.

If Quintero cannot get into the River Plate first team then what hope does he have in North London?

The Colombian seems like the perfect example of a player who will get a good move out of some sublime performances at the World Cup.

Likely to happen?

First of all River Plate have to stump up £3.3million to sign him permanently – but given his form in Argentina, there’s a chance that won’t happen.

They may trigger his option-to-buy clause because they know that they could make a massive profit if clubs from Europe become interested, but at nearly £20million, Spurs are likely to avoid this one.
