Southampton-bound Armstrong agrees terms for Celtic exit

|

Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong has agreed terms with Southampton to complete his £7million switch to the Premier League, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claimed in their live transfer blog on Saturday [10:14pm] that Armstrong, 26, has held talks with Saints manager Mark Hughes and will now wrap up his move to St Mary’s within days.

It is understood that the Parkhead first teamer, who made 41 appearances in all competitions last season, will be on the move “this week”.

Good move for Celtic?

Armstrong’s future at Celtic has been a major talking point over the last year.

He was in stunning form in Scotland in the 2016/17 season as Brendan Rodgers guided the Hoops to the domestic treble without a single defeat, but his performances last term had definitely dropped amid worries over his commitment to the club.

Now it seems that Armstrong is finally off and £7million is a good fee for someone who is in the final year of his contract and has not given his all in the last 12 months.

Rodgers and the Celtic fans should be very happy about this business.

Likely to happen?

Reports have been suggesting that this move is definitely a goer and with it now understood that it is just days away from completion, it’s hard to see how it could fall through.

There’s little chance that the Bhoys would pull the plug on the move given the decent fee they’re about to pocket while Southampton have been linked with Armstrong for over a year.

Judging by the Mirror’s claims, he should be in red and white stripes very soon.
