O’Halloran signs two year deal with Melbourne City to secure Rangers exit

|

Melbourne City manager Warren Joyce has confirmed that the Australian side have secured the signature of Michael O’Halloran from Rangers this summer.

The Sydney Morning Herald claim that the 27-year-old attacker has signed a two-year-contract with the A-League club, having been on the fringes at Ibrox over the past couple of months, making just one appearances for the Light Blues last season.

While there is no confirmation from either club, Joyce and O’Halloran have confirmed that the covert deal is done and dusted, and that they are both very excited about what the future holds for the winger, who can also play as a striker if needed.

Joyce told the Sydney Morning Herald: “Michael brings a wealth of experience from a number of clubs, including one of the biggest in Europe.

“He’s a very exciting player to watch – he has pace to burn and is capable of creating and scoring goals.

“He will be an important addition to the squad and I know he is very ready to start preseason
preparations.”

Opinion

It seems really strange that this move has been broken by a newspaper rather than either club’s official website or Twitter account, but at least it gives fans a surprise on a lazy Sunday. O’Halloran certainly did not look like he had any sort of future at Rangers and his exit will not be opposed by many. In fact, the Gers need to get rid of more deadwood from their side and O’Halloran will be one of many to head out the exit door between now and August. Who will be leaving next remains to be seen. It should be an exciting move for the 27-year-old, moving to the other side of the globe to test his abilities against a different calibre of competition, and if he can take the best form he showed in Glasgow down under then he should quickly become a firm favourite among the Melbourne City supporters.
