Nottingham Forest are in talks to sign Sporting CP winger Daniel Podence, according to ZeroZero.

The Portuguese sports website reports that the 22-year-old could be moving to the City Ground this summer on a free transfer after Podence terminated his contract at Sporting, along with other players such as Rui Patricio and Gelson Martins after conflict with fans at the club.

The Portugal Under-21 international made 20 appearances for Sporting last season – who finished third in Liga NOS – and laid on a further eight assists for his club before sustaining an injury in January this year, which ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

Good move for Nottingham Forest?

Probably not. Podence appears to be susceptible to injury after being out for so long and Aitor Karanka will not want to risk having a player such as the youngster on board if he is just going to be injured.

As a winger, more goals need to be contributed to support the striker, and Podence has not netted any in the 2017/2018 season, which is a rather worrying statistic.

Karanka is better off leaving this player for now until he knows he is free from injury and is reliable.

Likely to happen?

Yes. Karanka has already bought in some Portuguese talent already in this transfer window, and appears to be on a roll with his busy transfer activity.

Forest have already opened talks to sign Podence, so do not be surprised if another Portuguese player was to join the club’s ranks given the club’s liking for them.

With Podence also being available on a free transfer, Karanka will want to sign him before any other clubs come sniffing – but so far they have not.
