Nottingham Forest have not made an £8million bid to sign Middlesbrough striker Patrick Bamford, according to the Nottingham Post.

The newspaper has offered an update on the situation via their website and says that claims by the Mirror that Boro have rejected an offer from Forest are wide of the mark, however manager Aitor Karanka is interested in signing up the 24-year-old.

The Mirror had also reported that Bamford’s Middlesbrough team-mate Adam Clayton was wanted by Karanka as he continues to be linked with players from his former club.

OPINION

Nottingham Forest would definitely do well to sign Bamford for £8million – but they definitely should not be going any higher than that. The former Chelsea striker just doesn’t score anywhere near enough on a regular basis and should be avoided if the asking fee exceeds the £8million that has already been quoted. Bamford scored 13 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions for Middlesbrough last season, and Forest will surely want someone who can score more than that – ideally someone of Britt Assombalonga’s mould. Tony Pulis did get Bamford firing on all cylinders for a brief period when he scored eight goals in five Championship games. But away from that his form in front of goal was poor and the Reds should avoid him, especially given the fact that the East Midlands club have been able to stun a few this summer so far with some of their signings.
