Newcastle United, Everton and Fulham are all in the hunt to sign Guingamp midfielder Clement Grenier this summer, according to L’Equipe.

The French newspaper claimed via their website that Grenier, 27, has had the chance to enter talks with the likes of Rafa Benitez and Marco Silva about a switch to the Premier League in the current transfer window.

The former Lyon pass master only joined Guingamp in January and since then he has scored five goals and supplied four assists in 15 appearances across all competitions for them.

Good move for Newcastle?

At the moment, Benitez’s concerns should lie with his strike force as currently his midfield options are quite decent – however that doesn’t mean that he should abandon the chance to sign Grenier all together.

During the last few years, the France international has really struggled with injury issues, but since moving to Guingamp in January, he has revitalised his form and looks like he could be a really good signing for any interested Premier League club.

With Ayoze Perez’s form not exactly consistent, Benitez may eventually want to buy an attacking midfielder like Grenier.

Likely to happen?

There is a lot of interest in Grenier with AC Milan and Fenerbahce also said to be looking into signing the Frenchman.

Both of them can guarantee the set-piece specialist a bigger chance of winning silverware, as well as European football.

Newcastle may not even be able to offer him as good a deal as the other teams in the race for his signature, so it seems like Benitez could be fighting a losing battle in this one.
