Leeds United’s move to appoint former Lille manager Marcelo Bielsa as Paul Heckingbottom’s successor is 99 per cent agreed, according to Fichajes Goleador.

The South American news outlet claimed via their official Twitter account on Monday that the former Lille manager has all but agreed to fill the Elland Road vacancy, however there is doubt due to ‘El Loco’s’ unpredictable personality.

Sky Sports reported earlier on Monday that Leeds were in advanced talks with the 62-year-old after director of football Victor Orta and managing director Angus Kinnear jetted out to South America to thrash out an agreement.

Good move for Leeds?

Pep Guardiola, Mauricio Pochettino and Diego Simeone are among some of the top managers in European football that have raved about Bielsa in the past and his CV speaks for itself.

Although some of his spells at clubs have been short-lived – he spent just 48 hours in charge of Lazio – he will be a brilliant appointment for Leeds if the hierarchy can stay on his good side.

There’s a reason why Bielsa is known as ‘El Loco’.

Will he last the full season? Normally you would say it depends on results, but given his track record, he’s a ticking time bomb that could work out to be a masterstroke by Orta.

Likely to happen?

With Orta and Kinnear said to be in South America to talk with Bielsa, it seems as though this deal will go through soon enough.

It may take some time to be confirmed by the club, but with the agreement said to be 99 per cent done, it’s safe to say that it’s more a matter of when and not if he will succeed Heckingbottom.
