Celtic are on the verge of sealing a deal for Paris Saint Germain striker Odsonne Edouard as they look to turn his loan spell into a permanent move, according to journalist Loic Tanzi.

The reporter, who works for reputed French outlet RMC, claims on his personal Twitter account that the 20-year-old hitman has already undergone his medical with the Hoops and that he is set to put pen to paper on a four-year contract, in a big-money move which will cost Brendan Rodgers’ side £8.7million.

The terms of the deal reportedly do not include any bonus payments but there will be a percentage of his next sale owed to the French giants.

Opinion

Edouard was not exactly a prolific goalscorer for the Bhoys last season, with 11 goals across all competitions, but he certainly did enough to warrant a move to Celtic Park – although that record-breaking price tag puts immense pressure on his shoulders going forward. At 20, he obviously has a lot of potential and it is that, rather than his current talent, which the Hoops are investing in, but of course he will be expected to dazzle in Celtic’s senior side from day one. He will have to battle with Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths for a role in the first team but the added competition should only bring out the best of the trio. It is a stunning way for the club to get their summer transfer business kicked off and there will be an expectation that more quality signings will follow in the footsteps of Edouard. Rodgers better keep the fans satisfied.
