Nottingham Forest midfielder Andreas Bouchalakis is heading for the exit at City Ground this summer, according to the Nottingham Post.

The newspaper reports on their website that the 25-year-old is set for the exit as boss Aitor Karanka makes way for new signings this transfer window, as he looks to build a team capable of promotion next season.

It is understood that the enforcer has been training with former club Olympiacos, and is set to make a switch back to the Greek club following Karanka’s player cull.

He made 25 appearances for Forest in the 2017/2018 campaign, with his only two goals coming in a 4-3 win over Brentford last August.

OPINION

Karanka has been rather busy in this summer’s transfer window after the arrivals of Joao Carvalho and Diogo Gonclaves from Benfica, and it appears he wants to make room for other top-level signings. Unfortunately, this means that there will be a few casualties in the process and the Greek appears to be one of them. Bouchalakis has the talent but not enough for Karanka to keep him on at the City Ground and firmly in his plans. The Spanish manager is looking to enhance the midfield and does not think he can help them do that, especially falling down the pecking order in recent times – his presence as a central-midfielder obviously did not prove to help the defence, with the side falling to a lowly 17th place in the second tier. A move back to his home country will help him thrive in a more familiar environment, as the Championship is undoubtedly one of the most competitive leagues you can play in.
