Burt, an attacking midfielder, has three outings for the first team and spent time out on loan at Dumbarton last season, while Atakayi was resigned to youth football for the majority of the campaign.
Opinion
With Gerrard coming into the dugout at Ibrox, he may well want to have a look at some of the young talent in person before choosing whether to let them continue their careers with the club or shipping them out. Atakayi and Burt have both been on the very fringes of the first team and while the former might be lacking in senior experience, the latter’s time out on loan will have done him the world of good in his development. They now have another 12 months to try and convince the new man in charge that they are worthy of keeping their places with the Light Blues and pushing into the first team and getting some action under their belts, even if it is just minutes here and there, must be their next goal. However, the competition will be massive and with Gerrard looking to push Celtic at the top of the table, he cannot afford to be taking unnecessary risks.
