Rangers are in advanced talks to sign AS Roma forward Umar Sadiq, according to STV.

The Scottish broadcaster claim that the Gers are closing in on a deal to sign the 6ft 2in tall (as per Transfermarkt) attacker and are hopeful that a deal will be completed in time for the player to join his new teammates at the training camp in Spain.

STV report that the discussions are over signing Sadiq on a season-long loan deal from the Italian giants and that Steven Gerrard is keen on the colossus as he wants to bolster the club’s current attacking options.

Good move for Rangers?

Yes.

Sadiq spent his 2017/18 campaign on loan at Eredivisie side NAC Breda and scored five goals in 12 league appearances for his side.

The 21-year-old forward showed plenty of potential in his loan spell and could easily be a player that could rack up the goals if welcomed to Ibrox this summer.

Given Gerrard’s current lack of options when it comes to his front line, Sadiq is a smart signing who will be able to help the club have a successful 2018/19 season.

The giant player tends to love dribbling the ball at his opponents and he could soon be exciting fans as he charges at Rangers’ opposition week in and week out in the upcoming season.

Likely to happen?

It definitely seems so.

The Gers are hopeful to have a deal done in time for him to arrive in Spain for the club’s training camp so they must be confident that they are very close to sealing a move for his services.

Rangers’ time in Spain is due to end on June 27, as reported by Evening Times, so that means the club expect to be able to confirm his signing within the next five days.

The only way this deal doesn’t go through anytime soon is if another club hijack Rangers’ pursuit of the forward but as of yet there doesn’t seem to be another interested party in sight.
