The famous saying goes ‘if you can’t beat them, join them’, and while there is no chance of Rangers and Celtic ever joining forces, it looks as though the Light Blues are following in their rivals’ footsteps to close the gap at the top of the table.

The Hoops currently rule Scottish football with an iron fist, winning all of the last six domestic trophies on offer in a double-treble streak of success, while they have picked up seven Premiership titles in a row.

During that time, Rangers have had to come back from their financial meltdown, working their way through the leagues to return to the top flight, although they are yet to mount a serious challenge to their near neighbours.

Last season was no different, the Gers finishing third as the Hoops stormed to another title, and it looks as though Brendan Rodgers’ side means business this summer by splashing out a record breaking fee for Odsonne Edouard from Paris Saint Germain, after his impressive loan spell at Parkhead.

Having seen the Bhoys sign a powerhouse striker on loan from a giant of European football, Rangers look set to do the same, with the Scottish Sun claiming that the Ibrox outfit are just days away from securing a temporary deal for Roma hitman Umar Sadiq.

It is stated that the 21-year-old has turned down offers from elsewhere to link up with Steven Gerrard’s men, and the similarities in style between Sadiq and Edouard cannot be ignored.

While the latter is evidently playing in a side filled with more quality, the Gers will be hoping their latest arrival can put their rivals north of the border to the sword, and if he can replicate his Celtic counterpart’s 11 goals in Scotland next season, then it will be a successful move.

Still, Celtic fans will be feeling a twinge of pride in the fact that their rivals are seemingly copying their tactics to try and topple them.
