Jack Wilshere is “desperate” to join West Ham this summer and is prepared to take a pay cut to push through the transfer, according to a renowned club insider.

Ex-WHU Employee, which is a very reliable source of Hammers news, has claimed in a column for the West Ham Way site the England international could be willing to forsake some cash to make the move from north to east London.

Wilshere, 26, announced last week that he is quitting Arsenal on a free transfer after being offered a new deal but told by new boss Unai Emery his game time would be reduced next season.

Good move for West Ham?

If the Wilshere of January and February who looked like he could recapture his best Arsenal form and fitness were to join, then, definitely yes. But if the Irons were getting the injury-plagued player who has spent more than half his career on the treatment table, certainly not. That’s the problem with Jack. There are so many ifs and buts. He’s a mighty fine player when on song, but he is a high risk signing given his history and particularly those weak ankles.

Is it likely to happen?

The Telegraph report Wilshere is on a basic £110,000-a-week at Arsenal, a deal which expires at the end of this month. Wilshere has lucrative contract offers elsewhere and it is intriguing that the super-reliable Ex-WHU Employee believes he is desperate to make the short journey from north to east London. Certainly, it would mean no domestic upheaval for the 26-year-old, who has a young family, and he could get the stage he craves under a manager in Manuel Pellegrini who has an emphasis on attacking football. If Wilshere is indeed willing to take a pay cut, it could happen, but the West Ham interest would need to be significant.
