Former Ranger manager Mark Warburton has stated that Celtic landing Moses Odubajo would be a marquee signing for the Hoops.

Warburton knows what makes a good Celtic player having played against the Hoops during his tenure at Ibrox.

However, the former Gers boss knows the 24-year-old better than most, having parted ways with £1million to sign the defender when he was managing Brentford.

This leads Warburton to believe that Odubajo would be a top signing for Brendan Rodgers, with the Scottish Sun reporting that the defender is in talks with the Celtic boss, if the Bhoys can finalise a deal for the injury-stricken talent.

“If he’s over his injury worries, is fit and ready again, then he can be an outstanding signing for Celtic,” Warburton told the Scottish Sun.

“An on form Odubajo can be the best right-back in Scottish football by a mile. I can’t pay him a greater compliment than that.”

OPINION

Warburton obviously has his favourites as a manager, but his testimony toward Odubajo is warming, to say the least. At times prior to his injury, the 24-year-old showed signs that he could be a top player. He could have been playing Premier League football for Hull City, as the defender was integral to Hull’s promotion-winning season. The back-to-back injury crisis that fell upon the former England under-21 international could have been detrimental to his career, as it would have been easy to pack it up following such horrendous news. Yet this has not stopped the defender, who now could be Celtic’s starting full-back, if Warburton’s words are to be believed. Rodgers certainly could be inheriting a top talent, but the injury concern will always be there after undergoing such serious surgery. This preseason stop in Austria could be what is needed for Odubajo to regain some much-needed football sharpness, as well as confidence, which could be key to his proposed Celtic career.
