New Rangers defender Connor Goldson has indicated that this was the perfect time for him to join the Gers, as Steven Gerrard is creating a revolution.

Goldson, who recently move to the Ibrox from Brighton, thinks that Gerrard’s influence on the team has brought excitement to Scottish football.

“I feel like there is a little bit of a revolution going on. The new manager has obviously made the fans happy and made them excited again,” Goldson stated, as quoted by the Belfast Telegraph.

“I know it has been a tough few years, but I feel like there is a lot of optimism around the club and I feel this is the perfect time for me to be joining.”

Goldson is one of five new signings at the Gers, and is expected to feature heavily from early on under Gerrard.

OPINION

You have to think that Goldson is right, there seems to be a sense of optimism around the club that we have not seen for a while. When Graeme Murty took over last season, he did inject a bit of character into the Ibrox, but the ageing squad and results you feel let him down. Gerrard, however, has totally reinvented Rangers and has brought in a host of new players, many of which will come in as immediate starters. The excitement surrounding the Glasgow outfit is not just due to Gerrard’s transfer business though, as Goldson states, there seems to be a facelift or revolution happening at the club, Rangers are exciting to play for once more. One must wonder if their squad is still not complete, but the Gers have taken a major step in the right direction to dethrone their bitter rivals Celtic, who have reigned supreme in Scotland for a number of years. Goldson is just one piece of the puzzle, and Gerrard will look to his Premier League experience to steady his defence, that was incredibly leaky last season.
