Rangers new number two, Gary McAllister, has admitted that the prospect of working at the Ibrox was too good an opportunity to turn down.

Gers new gaffer Steven Gerrard brought in the former Scotland captain as his assistant, despite not being within the game for three years.

McAllister’s last role was working at Liverpool in 2015, doing a similar job to what he is now at Rangers, but admits there was no way he could have turned down the club’s offer.

“The lure of the club, the profile of the club means it is one of the few jobs in all honesty that I would have come back into,” McAllister told Rangers TV, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“I am really enthusiastic about it, it has been really refreshing coming back into the frontline of football again so I can’t wait for it to all start really.”

McAllister is currently away in Spain with the rest of the team, as they prepare for their latest season in the Scottish Premier League.

OPINION

The link is clear between McAllister and Gerrard, as the two are heavily associated with Liverpool FC. However, you have to agree with the former Scotland captain, as Gerrard has brought an edge of excitement to the Ibrox. It will be a tough job to dethrone Scottish Premier League champions Celtic, but the foundations have been put in place by McAllister and Gerrard to certainly compete with them. There are a host of new faces at the club, and the transfer business completed by the Gers certainly looks promising in terms of the future. One thing that could boost McAllister’s future prospects could be if the Gers exceed expectations in the coming seasons, and win some silverware. The fans certainly demand success, but realists understand they could be far off that, having seen Celtic win the famous ‘double treble’. If Gerrard and McAllister are to take one of the trophies away from Celtic Park, they would have exceeded expectations, so the opportunity seems to be too good to turn down for the former Liverpool assistant.
