Celtic must admit they were wrong and sell defender Marvin Compper this summer, just months after he was snapped up by Brendan Rodgers.

According to a report in The Scottish Sun, the centre-back has finally recovered from a spate of calf problems that have blighted his time at Celtic Park following his £1million switch from RB Leipzig.

The 33-year-old made only one appearance since he joined the treble winners and that was in the Scottish Cup against minnows Morton in March – but even that outing was too much for him as it saw him sidelined once more.

And now that he is fit and ready to feature for the Hoops next week in their friendly fixture against SK Vorwarts Steyr, Celtic manager Rodgers needs to fully assess and weigh up whether the player’s inclusion in the side is beneficial.

Compper’s injury record over previous seasons would suggest that the Bhoys boss was off the mark in his pursuit of the former German international whose best days in the game are clearly well behind him.

Celtic cannot afford to carry a passenger which is ultimately what Compper is and if a bid comes in for the player this summer, whatever the fee, they should take it, immediately and sign a player who actually adds some depth to the side.
