Wolves star Ruben Neves is set to sign a lucrative new contract that will see him double his wages, according to freelance reporter Tim Nash.

The reliable journalist, formerly of the Express & Star, claimed on his personal Twitter account on Saturday morning that Neves, 21, will extend his stay at Molineux until 2023 having agreed a new £50,000-a-week wage and an announcement is said to be imminent.

It is understood that Neves was previously earning £25,000-a-week.

He was a big figure for Nuno Espirito Santo last season, scoring six goals as well as one assist, and who can forget that wonder goal scored versus Derby.

OPINION

This contract extension was to be expected, as Neves last season truly pulled the strings for Wolves. It must be noted that the Portuguese born talent does struggle at times with his discipline, receiving 11 yellows last season. Yet this does not take away from what is a brilliant player, and once this news is confirmed the fans can almost start celebrating Premier League survival already. Neves grew to be a fan favourite last season, and has been rewarded aptly for his stellar performances throughout the season. Santo has secured the spine of his team with the deal, and the pass master Neves will no doubt be up to his usual tricks next term in England’s top division. The 21-year-old still has time to develop as a player, and his career could be greatly boosted by earning so many minutes in the ultra-competitive Premier League at such a young age. Santo is shaping up a really nice looking squad in Wolverhampton, and other Premier League teams should be starting to look a bit nervous.
