Bruno Fernandes is the latest player to be linked with a move away from trouble-ridden Sporting CP, with West Ham eyeing up a swoop according to fan site Knees Up Mother Brown – and he is an absolute must buy for the Irons this summer.

A move for the 23-year-old should be completed as quickly as possible, for there is likely to be much interest, and he could be their signing of the summer if boss Manuel Pellegrini plays his cards right.

The attacking midfielder is currently starring for Portugal in this summer’s World Cup and has deservedly caught the attention of the Hammers in his two outings so far – and playing in the Premier League will only improve on the eye-catching ability he already has.

Fernandes was a star player for Sporting CP in the Liga NOS last season, acting as a goal machine from midfielder with 16 goals and 20 assists to help the club finish third in Portugal’s top flight – but their troubles could see Fernandes on his way out on a free transfer, following in the footsteps of other teammates.

The Portuguese international is just what Pellegrini needs to add that extra flair to his side, as well as contributing those all-important goals in which the strike force currently lack.

The support to centre-forward Javier Hernandez is what the Mexican requires to relieve some of the pressure he has on him to perform alongside Arnautovic, as well as relieving some of the goal burden.

Fernandes largely operates as an attacking midfielder, but can also switch to playing as a secondary striker if really necessary, which would be vital back-up for Pellegrini if his strikers sustain an injury.

West Ham’s link to Fernandes’ services is one of the most exciting transfer stories to emerge out of the club this summer – and they must land themselves the world-class flyer before any body else gets there first.
