Rangers’ pursuit of Liverpool duo Harry Wilson and Ryan Kent looks to be nearing some kind of conclusion, according to a reporter from The Sun.

Alan Nixon, a reliable journalist from the media publication, has revealed on his personal Twitter account when asked whether transfers involving the two were still alive, that there was little chance that the Light Blues will get a deal for Wilson over the line, while a move for Kent is a possibility.

It was only reported again by Nixon himself earlier this month that the Gers were leading the race for Kent, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Bristol City.

OPINION:

If Nixon is right about Wilson and there is nothing going on there between Liverpool and Rangers then this is a big blow, as the starlet would certainly have been the preferred option from supporters given his stunning form for Hull City last season –  at least on a statistical level. The Gers boss, Steven Gerrard, has been making full use of the transfer window, plunging in an out as he looks to improve his team but exactly what Kent can offer this Rangers side is questionable. The 21-year-old made a total of ten Championship appearances last season, creating two goals but he does not have the cut and thrust that his Liverpool teammate can offer. Liverpool are said in the Liverpool Echo to want Wilson for pre-season as they have high-hopes for the attacker and a deal is looking less likely to happen. He is the player that Rangers will need for the new campaign though so Gerrard must use his ability to attract these top young players once more.
