West Ham are set to offer Declan Rice a new bumper deal that will see his wages increase ten-fold, according to Claret and Hugh.

The reliable Hammers news website claims that the defender is in line for a fresh contract that will see his £2,000-a-week academy deal turn into a £20,000-a-week one.

It is understood that the 19-year-old’s deal could be doubled again depending on appearances and talks are set for the imminent future when manager Manuel Pellegrini returns from his holiday in homeland Chile.

The report details that the Republic of Ireland internatonal is keen to pen a new deal at the London Stadium after his sensational first-team breakthrough in the past 12 months.

OPINION

Rice has really impressed since graduating from the club’s academy and he looks like he could be a first-team mainstay in the next decade if he continues on the same road of development. The teenager looked a dependable figure in the heart of the Hammers backline this season and was suited well alongside the more experienced Angelo Ogbonna. He will now hope to impress the new manager Pellegrini and signing a new senior contract should be seen as a positive step. Rice is certainly becoming a huge fan favourite and it’s important for Pellegrini to give him a fair crack in the senior squad. West Ham have made a knack out of developing rising stars through their academy and hopefully they can keep hold of this one. Rice has shown he is a ball-playing centre-back that is capable of playing Premier League football and the only way is up for him.
