Liverpool’s German star Emre Can is set to jet out for Juventus imminently with a medical arranged and a five year deal on the table, according to Tutto Sport.

The Italian sports newspaper states that the Serie A champions are expecting the 25-year-old’s arrival over the coming days and that, following the medical tests, he will put pen to paper on a long term deal before heading out on holiday and returning in July.

The 20-cap international is out of contract at Anfield this summer, meaning he will be leaving on a free transfer having made 167 appearances for the Reds, including 38 outings and six goals over the last season.

Opinion

Another day, another step closer to the Anfield exit for Emre Can. There will be much disappointment to see him leaving in the manner he is but there should be question marks over how this situation was allowed to progress in the way it did. If Can had no inclination of penning a new deal last summer, he should have been sold to garner some sort of transfer fee, and that could have been spent on securing his replacement. Even in January, when it would have been pretty clear his future did not lie at Liverpool, a cut price deal would have been better than nothing this summer, and he was hardly a key figure in the first team since the turn of the new year. Still, they say that hindsight is 20/20, and Klopp will be loathed to allow the same situation happen again any time soon. Any contracts that are nearing their expiry date will likely be dealt with one way or another.
