West Ham winger Grady Diangana has committed his future to the club by putting pen to paper on a new two-year deal, as revealed onĀ the Irons’ official website.

The 20-year-old speed machine has impressed for the West Ham Under 23’s this season in Premier League 2, which granted him his very first call up to the senior side in the club’s FA Cup match against Wigan Athletic, as well as featuring in the games against Chelsea and Southampton.

The youngster netted 3 goals for the young side in the last campaign, and was quoted by the team’s website as saying: “I’m very, very happy [to sign a new deal]. I’ve been here for such a long time, ever since I was ten, so to be given an extended contract is a step closer to what I have been dreaming of.

“I’m looking forward to getting back into pre-season. There is a new manager here and it’s a new opportunity.”

OPINION

The youngster has performed outstandingly well for the Under 23’s last season and was deservedly rewarded with a first team call-up in the FA Cup as well as being offered this new contract. He has the ability to create opportunities out of nowhere, and has stepped up well to a higher level at the age of only 20. Pellegrini will be looking at Diangana to see where he fits within the team, and hopefully we may see him more often next season if the Hammers boss likes what he sees in pre-season. Impressing a new manager is no easy feat especially with limited first-team senior experience, so to begin with he may be on the bench for a while before the Chilean decides he is ready to be playing consistently in the Premier League. However, he should not get his hopes up as competition for places are already high as it is.
