New Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa delivered his instant reaction to the news of his Elland Road appointment, revealing that it always been his goal to work in England but that he wanted to wait for the right opportunity.

The club officially confirmed on Friday that the former Lille and Athletic Bilbao manager would be taking charge of matters at the Yorkshire outfit through their Twitter channel and website.

As quoted on Leeds’ official website, Bielsa said: “It has always been my ambition to work in England and I have had several opportunities to do so during my career, however I have always felt it was important to wait for the right project to come along.”

These are words that will instantly endear him to the Whites faithful who are desperate see their club push on for a return to the Premier League.

OPINION:

The Argentinian is already a popular choice amongst the Elland Road support but to hear that he has turned down offers in England prior to his acceptance of the Leeds managerial position because he did not feel they were right for him will make supporters love him all the more. While the former Lille boss is known for his passionate displays on the sidelines, his reliance on using “the press” tactics,  and Brian Clough style management – one of the greatest managers to grace the game – it is understandable to see why hopes are high that the 62-year-old’s appointment will lead to the Premier League. Bielsa will undoubtedly have been attracted to the Yorkshire club following their partnership with the 49ers Enterprises, a deal struck between Andrea Radrizzani and an affiliate of the American football giants which will financially back Leeds’ first team. Fans will now be interested to see how exactly Bielsa decides to spend his transfer kitty in the window.
