West Ham head of medical delivers update on Lanzini injury

|

West Ham United attacking midfielder Manuel Lanzini has undergone surgery on Thursday night in Barcelona for a cruciate knee ligament injury that the midfielder incurred whilst on international duty, and it has been a success according to the club’s official website.

The Hammers revealed the update which is a touch of good news for the West Ham faithful who will be keen to see the playmaker back on the field of play as soon as possible.

However, a serious injury such as the one incurred by the Argentinian international is in many cases considered season-ending.

New head of medical at the London Stadium, Richard Collinge, gave the update on Lanzini following Dr Ramon Cugat (the world-renowned surgeon) on the procedure, speaking to the West Ham website he said: “From correspondence with the surgeon and Manu himself, the surgery went well and everything went to plan, the cruciate ligament was repaired and we now start down the road to recovery.

“Manu will be staying in Barcelona for two to three weeks, undergoing intensive rehabilitation, and I will be going out there to oversee the early phases of that. He will then be returning to London to work with ourselves with a view to getting himself back on the pitch as soon as possible.”

OPINION:

While this is great news to hear that the surgery has been a success for Lanzini, there was no word as to when the Hammers will have the Argentinian back in the fold. An injury in the last campaign for the midfielder coincided with a drop-in for the team as they struggled to cope without his creativity, showing just how important he is to the Irons and also even earned him suggestions that a move to Liverpool could have been on the cards. Lanzini’s latest injury means that it is absolutely imperative that the club get a deal for Felipe Anderson over the line before the end of the transfer window as failure to do so will see their attacking threat greatly diminished. We would still imagine that the lack of clarification coming from the club with regards to expecting a date for the midfielder’s return is due to the fact that he is still be expected to be out for the entirety of next season.
