Many Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight with how senior star Davinson Sanchez performed while on international duty with Colombia in their World Cup clash against Senegal on Thursday afternoon.

The 21-year-old was chosen to line up alongside Barcelona centre back Yerry Mina at the heart of the defence for the South Americans as they looked to make their way into the last-16 of the competition in Russia – which they managed thanks to a 1-0 win courtesy of his defensive partner’s header.

However, it was the African nation, featuring the likes of Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and Everton’s Idrissa Gueye, who started brighter, giving Sanchez and his team mates plenty to deal with.

For the Spurs fans watching on, there were many who were impressed with Sanchez’s display, putting in a number of impressive tackles, including a last ditch tackle to deny Mane which had originally been given as a penalty before a VAR review.

This is Futbol has rounded up a selection of some of the supporters’ reactions to his display:

Opinion

It looks as though Colombia might well have a few more fans from north London if Sanchez keeps up these performances. The Spurs faithful know exactly what he can do for the club and they are now seeing that he can do it on the biggest stage of all. The defender put pen to paper over a new deal last month, despite having only signed for the club last summer, and the Lilywhites will be delighted to see the young powerhouse starring at the back for them over the coming years. His performance could well have seen a couple of suitors sniffing around had he not been tied down.
